Interview:: Wassupbrothers

Nano-N): short description of your "production"
Olga-O): My name is Olga Zamyatina and I am owl addicted softie maker living in Moscow, Russia with my beloved husband Igor a photographer, who always supports me and make beautiful professional photos of my creations for my shop, Wassupbrothers.
Over the past 10 years I tried to find myself in different kinds of arts and crafts : illustration, fine arts, fashion.It was a long journey
Later after going up and down I've been stuck on the art soft toys. They gave me the opportunity to use all the skills and creativity that I have accumulated ,and bring me much joy and pleasure.When i made my first owl almost 1 year ago , I did not think it's serious and now I can't imagine that once there was a time when I did not create my soft little friends.

N): What is creativity for you?
O):  Creativity for me is a way of living. I think everybody is creative and talented. All what we just need is open our hearts and start create.
It is the way to express yourself and make life colorful and positively wonderful!

N): What is handmade?
O): Handmade it is the way to use our creativity and to fill with love things around. Handmade for me always going together with the recycling.
Some years ago in my life I was uncontrolled user, not shopaholic, but I’ve used too many things I don’t need. Unnecessary, and needless things. I used too much, I ate too much, i wasn't happy and satisfied with all the things that are bought.
In 2009 i became vegan and many things get clear for me about food, life,and everything.

I think people have to think, why do they have to buy something, if they can do it themselves, and if they can recycle something what they are already have. Planet resources are not endless.Recycled and handmade things have not only ethic nature, its always about past and story behind them, and people who made them. All the unperfect stich, paint spots or light assymethry make me happy. I see the real people behind the product.

N):  From what and how does your project?
O): I try repurpose, recycle,reuse different materials as often as possible.
Basically I do my softies without patterns, just taking the pieces of cloth and watch how one of them out. It's a magic to see, how small scraps, vintage buttons, sweaters or old dresses turn to a soulful creations.
Mostly i use natural fabric and fibers. If I am not satisfied with the fabric tingle, i dye it with natural dyes like tea, coffee, cinnamon and others. Often you can see me in the kitchen cooking a large pot of vintage lace and doilies.
I love to give new life to the useless and old things. The idea that my eco friendly toys will bring a little bit of love and joy to you warm my heart.
I'm vegan , and do not use natural fur or leather for my creations. My owls and other creations, i think, are vegans too) They are positive and cruelty free.
